1. Clean Condenser Coils Every 6 Months
Condenser coils release heat removed from inside the fridge. In Dubai, fine dust and pet hair quickly coat these coils, forcing the compressor to run twice as long and overheat. Unplug the fridge, locate the coils at the bottom rear, and use a coil brush and vacuum cleaner to gently remove all dust buildup.
2. Inspect & Clean Magnetic Door Gaskets
A loose or cracked rubber door seal allows warm, humid air to enter your fridge continuously, causing severe frost buildup on freezer walls and straining the motor. Test your seal by closing the door on a currency note—if the note pulls out easily with no resistance, the gasket is worn and should be replaced.
3. Maintain Optimal Internal Temperatures
Keep your fresh food refrigerator compartment set between +3°C and +4°C, and your freezer set at -18°C. Setting temperatures too cold wastes energy, while setting them too warm risks bacterial growth on dairy and meat products.
4. Keep the Refrigerator Appropriately Stocked
Refrigerators need thermal mass (chilled items) to maintain steady internal temperatures when the door opens. An empty fridge loses cold air immediately, forcing the compressor to restart frequently. However, avoid overpacking shelves, as blocked air vents prevent cold air circulation.
5. Clear and Clean the Defrost Drain Hole
During automatic defrost cycles, melted frost flows down a small drain hole located at the bottom of the internal back wall. If food crumbs clog this hole, water pools under your crisper drawers. Flush the hole with warm water and a drop of mild detergent using a small syringe or flexible straw.
6. Replace Internal Water & Ice Filters Regularly
If your refrigerator features an automatic ice maker and chilled water dispenser, replace the inline carbon water filter every 6 months. Clogged filters reduce water pressure and allow mineral sediment to foul internal water valves.
