Rotating spray arms shoot pressurized hot water throughout the tub. Small food debris like lemon seeds, rice grains, and hard water limescale frequently clog the tiny jet nozzles. Unclip the upper and lower spray arms and use a toothpick or wire to clear every nozzle under running water.
2. Dirty, Blocked Sump Mesh Filter
The cylindrical mesh filter at the bottom of the tub catches food waste to prevent recirculating it onto clean dishes. When this filter is choked with grease and debris, dirty wash water gets repeatedly sprayed over your plates. Twist and remove the filter weekly to scrub it with warm soapy water and a soft brush.
3. Water Not Heating to Sanitizing Temperature
Dishwasher detergents require water temperatures of at least 55°C to 65°C to activate enzymes and dissolve fats. If the heating element is burnt out or the thermostat sensor fails, the cycle runs with cold water, leaving oily film on plastics and plates. If the wash pump motor's impeller is worn or the capacitor is weak, water pressure drops significantly. The spray arms will fail to rotate at full speed, leaving dishes partially unwashed. This requires professional pump repair or replacement.
6. Detergent Dispenser Door Blocked
If tall cutting boards or baking trays block the detergent dispenser door from popping open early in the cycle, the tablet drops late or fails to dissolve, resulting in dirty dishes. Always place large items at the sides or rear of the lower rack.
