1. Washing Machine Not Draining Water
Standing water in the drum at the end of a cycle is the number one service call we receive across Dubai. This is usually caused by a foreign object (coins, safety pins, hair clips) lodged in the coin trap filter or drain pump impeller. First, disconnect power and open the lower access flap to unscrew the drain filter. Have towels ready to catch water. If the filter is clean and the drain hose isn't kinked, the drain pump motor has likely failed and requires professional washing machine repair.
2. Washer Shaking Violently and Walking Across the Floor
Excessive vibration during high-speed spinning typically results from an unbalanced laundry load (like a single heavy bath sheet), unlevel machine leveling feet, or worn suspension shock absorbers. Check that all four feet are firmly in contact with the floor. On older machines, hydraulic shock dampeners lose resistance over time, allowing the heavy drum to bang violently against the outer casing.
3. Drum Not Spinning or Agitating
If the machine fills with water and drains, but the drum refuses to spin, the issue usually stems from a snapped drive belt, worn motor carbon brushes, a defective door lock interlock sensor (which prevents spinning for safety), or a blown motor capacitor. If the drum rotates freely by hand with no resistance, a detached drive belt is the most likely culprit.
4. Water Leaking From the Front Door or Underneath
Door leaks on front-load washers are commonly caused by a torn or moldy rubber door boot gasket, or hair and lint caught along the bottom seal. Underneath leaks usually indicate a cracked water inlet valve, a split internal recirculation hose, or loose drain pump clamps. Always turn off the water supply valve immediately if you detect standing water.
5. Door Locked and Won't Open After Wash Cycle
Washing machine doors have a thermal PTC safety lock that remains engaged until water is completely evacuated and the drum has come to a full stop. If water remains inside, the door will not unlock. Try running a manual 'Drain/Spin' cycle. If the door remains jammed after power is disconnected for 10 minutes, the door lock solenoid assembly is faulty.
6. Washing Machine Making Loud Screeching or Grinding Noises
A high-pitched screech or metallic roaring sound during high-speed spinning indicates failed rear tub bearings. When the internal watertight seal degrades, water penetrates the steel ball bearings, causing rust and rapid destruction. Replacing drum bearings promptly prevents severe motor and outer tub damage.
7. Foul Smells and Mildew Inside the Drum
In Dubai's warm, humid climate, using excess liquid detergent and cold wash cycles causes soapy scum to accumulate in the outer tub cavity, breeding mold and bacteria. Run a monthly 90°C maintenance boil cycle with washing machine descaling powder or white vinegar, and always leave the door ajar between washes.
8. Machine Stopping Mid-Cycle
If your washer pauses midway through a wash, it may be struggling to fill with water (clogged inlet mesh filter), failing to reach the target water temperature (burnt-out heating element), or triggering an unbalance safety sensor.
9. Water Filling Very Slowly or Not at All
Check that the cold water tap behind the machine is fully open. Unscrew the water intake hose and inspect the small plastic mesh filter inside the machine's inlet valve—mineral scale and sand often obstruct this filter.
10. Cryptic Error Codes (OE, UE, 4E, E20, dE)
Modern digital washing machines from Samsung, LG, Bosch, and Siemens display error codes to signal specific faults. For example, 'OE' or 'E20' means drainage error; 'UE' indicates unbalance; 'dE' means door error; and '4E' signifies water supply failure.
